Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is hopeful that midfielder Jordy Clasie will be fit in time for his side's Premier League opener against Newcastle United.
Clasie limped off with a suspected hamstring injury during Southampton's 3-0 Europa League victory over Vitesse last week.
It was feared that Clasie would be out for a couple of weeks but Koeman has now revealed that the injury is not as bad as first anticipated and the Dutch midfielder could recover in time to line up for the Saints in the league opener against the Magpies at St James' Park on Sunday.
Koeman said: "It's positive. It looks positive. He's not really for a long time out and maybe he will be available next week but we have to wait for that."
