Chivas USA sign Argentine striker Mondaini

Chivas USA announced today that the club has signed Marcos Mondaini, an Argentine forward with experience playing in several South American leagues, on loan from Centro Atletico Foenix of Uruguay.

Mondaini, 26, plays as both a striker and a winger and has experience playing in Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Colombia, and will be eligible pending receipt of his P-1 Work Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Marcos is a dynamic attacking player and will fit well into the system that we're working to implement," said Head Coach Robin Fraser. "He's got experience in some of the top leagues in South America and we think he'll help us score some goals this year."

Mondaini came through the youth system of Boca Juniors, one of the top clubs in Argentina and worldwide, and has made a total of five appearances for the club. He has spent several seasons on loan with clubs throughout South America, scoring 13 goals in 41 appearances with Ecuadorian side Emelec in 2006, before joining Barcelona SC of Ecuador in 2008, and Uruguay's Nacional in 2009.

Most recently, Mondaini was with Atletico Nacional in Colombia, where he scored four goals in 26 appearances. Mondaini, the first Argentine player to sign with Chivas USA, joins 11 other Latino players on the Red-and-White's current roster.
