Chicago Fire to send Fernandez to Al-Rayyan

Chicago Fire are reportedly set to send Alvaro Fernandez on loan to Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan.

According to reports, the 27-year old former Seattle Sounders midfielder is close to finalising a move to join fellow Uruguayan Diego Aguirre in the Qatar Stars League.

"The negotiations have advanced and only routine matters are left, like the medical tests," Al-Rayyan head coach Aguirre told Sport 890 Radio.

"[The deal] will be finalized and it will help us a lot. [Fernández] debuted in Atenas of San Carlos and from there he went to Montevideo Wanderers, when I was coaching the team back in 2007. After that, he made an incredible soccer career becoming an international with Uruguay.

"I consider him a big professional and he plays really well, too.

"The competition here is really great and the possibility of signing Álvaro emerged. He is a player that I know very well. It is good to bring a Uruguayan player here."
