Chelsea's Wright-Phillips: Family always had belief in me

Shaun Wright-Phillips intends to continue working hard with a smile on his face as the Chelsea winger looks to cement a permanent place in the England side.

The 25-year-old produced a superb display down the right flank against Israel at Wembley on Saturday, setting England on their way to a 3-0 victory with the opening goal.

Wright-Phillips, though, maintains he never questioned his own ability or what at one time looked an uncertain future, following the unequivocal support of friends and family - including his step-father, former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright.

"I am not really a negative thinker - I always try to think positive," Wright-Phillips said.

"The main thing is that everybody, my family and friends, my dad, they all had the belief in me.

"That was the key factor.

"They kept me smiling and for me that is the main thing, as long as you are happy and you have confidence in yourself, then life goes on."
