Frank Lampard has urged West Ham United's board to give his former Chelsea teammate Gianfranco Zola time to get things right.

The England star claimed: "I do hope the people there give Franco a chance because he's not just Mr Chelsea - he's Mr Football.

"I really hope for his sake that the fans will back him because they are in trouble down there and could be facing a real scrap to survive.

"Unfortunately I know from personal experience how the fans there can be and so there's no guarantee they won't turn on him like they did on previous managers.

"I hope they won't but I must admit I am afraid of what might happen if West Ham continue to struggle."
