Chelsea striker Werner: I can't celebrate scoring in a defeat

Chelsea striker Timo Werner says maintaining his goalscoring form mattered little after defeat to Arsenal this week.

Werner concedes he'd take a win over a goal everytime.

"Of course when you score it's not bad, but it's a team sport and you want to win so my goal doesn't make me happy," Werner told the club's website.

"We twice came back. At the end of the first half and start of the second half we played good football, we were closer to going 3-2 up than Arsenal, but for all the goals we made too many mistakes and against a team like Arsenal you can get into a lot of problems.

"When we tried to build up from behind, it was not our best game. Arsenal had a lot of players in our half, they were very dangerous and we also made a lot of mistakes. That's why we lost."

The result condemned Chelsea to a third consecutive loss at Stamford Bridge. It is the first time that unwanted run has happened since 1993, but Werner is targeting this weekend's meeting with West Ham as a good chance to get back on track in SW6.

"It's hard to say why it's like this. We had some really tough games, the last three games away. We came with a good feeling against a team who had lost their last three games, so it's hard to explain.

"We have conceded too many goals in the last three home games, but we have to come back. We have another home game on Sunday and we want to win."
