Sunderland forward Jermaine Defoe has revealed that Chelsea skipper John Terry was left impressed with the Black Cats in their 3-2 win on the weekend.
The Wearside outfit came from behind twice to claim all three points against Guus Hiddink's men at the Stadium of Light, with Defoe scoring the winner.
The 33-year-old striker told the club's official website: "After the first five minutes on Saturday John Terry came up to me and said 'wow what a start', and for somebody like him to say that – he's played against the best players in the world – shows you the energy and desire we were playing with.
"He thought the way we set out our stall was unbelievable so credit to the lads because they never stopped believing, and if we can produce a performance like that against a team like Chelsea there's no reason why we can't do it again."
The win moved Sunderland out of relegation zone and they can now ensure their Premier League status by defeating Everton on Wednesday night.
