Chelsea's Mourinho: 'I feel sorry that I didn't make Mata happy'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he feels sorry that he could not provide Juan Mata with what he wanted.

The Spanish midfielder has joined Manchester United for a club-record £37.1million fee after struggling for game time at Stamford Bridge this season.

Mourinho, who admitted to playing Mata out of position, said it was with a heavy heart that he sees the former Valencia star depart west London but suggested it was a sale he had to make due to the players he has in his squad.

"I feel sorry that I didn't make him happy, but football is football and I build a team around Oscar in that position and on the sides the other people is doing very, very well," he said after Chelsea's 1-0 FA Cup fourth round win over Stoke City on Sunday.

"Juan is not comfortable on the sides. He tried very hard and he did very well in some matches playing on the sides, but it's not his natural habitat.

"So when a club like Man United comes and for sure they told him he's going to play in his favourite position and he wants to go, he goes."
