Tumultuous striker Didier Drogba has revealed how he did not want to leave French club Marseille for Chelsea and has explained how his former boss convinced him to do so.
"To be honest, I didn't want to leave Marseille, and staying there on the long-term was my project," the Ivorian told a live show on Canal+.
"But a coach took the time to speak to me and made me understand that to become one of the best strikers in the world, I had to sign with Chelsea.
"This man is Jose Mourinho, a man I have a fantastic relationship with, on and off the pitch.
"He made me understand that refusing to join Chelsea would have been like a lack of ambition, while staying with my club would have been a proof of fidelity."
