Chelsea defender Gary Cahill admits he is now fighting for his spot with Kurt Zouma.
The 20-year old French centre-back played a starring role as a defensive midfielder for the Blues in their Capital One Cup triumph over Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday which prompted manager Jose Mourinho to label him the 'new Marcel Desailly'.
And it wasn't only Mourinho who was impressed by Zouma with his teammate Cahill admitting that the pair will now do battle for the starting central defensive position alongside captain John Terry.
"Kurt has come in like when I joined the club and taken his chance. He's performed really, is a great lad, works hard and is a fantastic talent," said Cahill.
"He's proved his fully in line with John and me. It's a three-way fight, but obviously John has been the mainstay at the minute. It's healthy.
"It's been this way since I first came here when there was Branislav, John and David Luiz who could play centre-back. Top internationals who have played a lot more in the game so it's always been tough competition."
