Chelsea could've signed Southampton fullback Luke Shaw for NOTHING as a junior. The Sunday Mirror says Shaw was at a Chelsea development centre in Guildford, but was never offered a place at the club's academy.
Now, a decade later, the west Londoners are fighting with Tottenham to try to persuade Southampton to sell the 18-year-old at the end of the season.
The Saints rejected a bid worth £10m from Chelsea last season and executive chairman Nicola Cortese now values Shaw at three times that after tying the teenager to a five-year-contract in July.
Chelsea are prepared to offer Liverpool and Everton target Ryan Bertrand as part of a bid for Shaw, whose team visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
