Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has suffered a setback in his injury recovery.

Van Ginkel underwent knee surgery last summer and had it examined in Rome at the Villa Stuart specialist clinic this week.

But the feedback has been negative, with the Dutchman told it will take longer for his knee to recover.

"Marco has indeed been delayed in his recovery, but the specialist in question has not expressed any expectation about his return," said Karel Jansen of the Wasserman management agency.

Van Ginkel is contracted to Chelsea until 2020.
