Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has explained rejecting a loan move to Ajax last season.

Van Ginkel, instead, moved to AC Milan, where he shone in the second-half of the campaign.

"Ajax is a great club, but the circumstances were different. The Serie A is a bigger league than the Eredivisie, with better opponents, more pressure and resistance," he told Voetbal International.

"It has nothing to do with Ajax, but with the opportunity to develop myself."

Van Ginkel hopes to return to Milan next season.
