Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater is on the brink of signing for Aston Villa today.

The Mirror says Drinkwater is at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground for a medical ahead of a proposed loan move.

The midfielder has only just returned from his recent spell with Burnley, but was immediately informed by Blues boss Frank Lampard he was not part of first team plans.

It was reported that Chelsea wanted his £110k-per-week wages paid in full as part of any loan agreement, but that has seemingly not deterred Villa, who are desperate for reinforcements to their injury-hit squad.
