Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has praised attacking midfielder Cole Palmer for his England inclusion.

Palmer is in Gareth Southgate's group for upcoming friendly matches in March.

He is now in with a chance of being selected for Euro 2024, with Pochettino hailing his qualities.

The Argentine told reporters: “I saw Gareth [Southgate] and we were talking a few days ago. I think not surprised that he's showing a great personality and character. I think the way he adapted really quick to a new club like Chelsea, adapted to the coaching staff and of course to deal with the pressure to play for big club like Chelsea, I think that makes him special. There are qualities there and that is why we go for him.

“I think the most important thing is how he deals with the pressure because we have some amazing players but sometimes they struggle and they need time to deal. I think it's amazing the way he adapted to a new club and then he feels like 20 years here at this club, play easy, didn't feel the pressure and perform the way we expect he can do as the quality is there."

He then added on Conor Gallagher pushing to get in the England squad: “I think he's convincing the England manager because of his commitment, he's always 200 per cent in every single appearance and training. He needs to keep performing and keep this commitment always as it's one of his best skills. He has the capacity to always be ready to fight, to commit, to help and then showing his quality. Yes he needs to keep believing and trying to improve in this way.

“The other challenge for him is to score more goals. I think from the beginning of the season was really tough for him but now he's scoring and feeling more confident and I think now to grow in this reaction is the most important thing for him."
