Chelsea management happy to sell Sturridge to Liverpool

Chelsea are pleased with the business done in selling Danny Sturridge to Liverpool for £12 million.

The Daily Mail says Chelsea are satisfied they are banking a healthy profit on a player with only 18 months on his contract, even if a seven-figure slice of it goes to his former club Manchester City.

In three and a half years, blighted by doubts about his attitude and his reluctance to listen to advice or instructions, only Andre Villas-Boas really gave him an extended chance in the Chelsea team.

Carlo Ancelotti once said he was the quickest he had ever seen in the penalty box, with the speed to work a yard and unleash a shot with his left foot.

His downfall at Chelsea was that he lacked the physical presence and selfless discipline to lead the line in the style they wanted to play and did not have the desire to operate in a wider role.

He will leave Chelsea having scored 24 goals in 96 appearances, 47 of them as a substitute.
