Chelsea great Drogba picked for Arsenal clash, no room for Gerrard, Lampard

The 2016 MLS All-Star squad for this year's clash with Arsenal has been announced.

Major League Soccer's select will take on the Gunners in San Jose on July 28 but will be without a couple of drawcard names.

LA Galaxy star Steven Gerrard and New York City FC's Frank Lampard have both been left out of the MLS side, which will be coached by San Jose Earthquakes boss Dom Kinnear.

Liverpool legend Gerrard and Chelsea and Manchester City icon Lampard, along with ex-Gunners left-back Ashley Cole, were embarrassingly overlooked for the final 26-man squad but the final selection does happen to include some very familiar names.

Lampard's old Stamford Bridge colleague Dider Drogba (Montreal Impact) has been named to again wreak havoc on Arsenal while ex-Fulham and Tottenham attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders) is also among the players collectively picked by a fans vote, MLS Commissioner Don Garber and head coach Kinnear.

Real Madrid and AC Milan idol Kaka (Orlando City), reigning MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC), ex-Barcelona striker David Villa (NYCFC), former Spurs and Barca forward Giovani dos Santos (Galaxy) and Juventus hero Andrea Pirlo (NYCFC) were all named in the MLS team.
