Chelsea future for new number five Zouma

Kurt Zouma has been given a great vote of confidence by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho ahead of the 2014/15 Premier League season.

The 19-year old French centre-back has been handed the number five shirt at Stamford Bridge suggesting that Mourinho has big plans for him both this season and beyond.

Zouma joined the Blues from Saint-Etienne for £12.5million in January this year but was immediately loaned back to the French club for the remainder of the campaign.

Chelsea were recently linked with highly-rated Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, as well as Atletico Madrid's Joao Miranda, but it looks as though Zouma will be used to push John Terry and Gary Cahill following the departure of David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain.

France U21 international Zouma has been a loan target for Monaco and Sunderland recently but is now expected to kickstart his career with Chelsea.
