Chelsea duo Drogba, Anelka among previous LA Galaxy targets

Prior to Robbie Keane's arrival at LA Galaxy last week, the MLS club had their sights set on some other big names in European football. Keane joined the Galaxy from Tottenham Hotspur and immediately proved a hit, scoring on debut, but he may not have been there had the Los Angeles club been successful in attracting some other big names to The Home Depot Center.

A report in the Boston Globe suggests that Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka had emerged as strong targets whilst Real Madrid and Brazil star Kaka was also on a Galaxy wishlist.

However, they were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the attacking trio and eventually went for Republic of Ireland captain Keane who instantly formed a good on-field rapport with former Manchester United and Real star David Beckham.
