Chelsea defender Kalas excited by Middlesbrough challenge

Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas is excited about his loan move to Middlesbrough.

Kalas is aiming to win promotion to the Premier League with Aitor Karanka's side.

But he also wants to press his claims for a regular first team shirt with both Chelsea and the Czech Republic.

"My target for this season is to play as many games as I can and hopefully help Boro get promotion," said the on-loan Chelsea defender.

"If I can do that and play well it can help me develop as a player and help my career for my club and my country."

Kalas adds: "I don't mean anything disrespectful about Middlesbrough, because I know it is a big club, but it is also a lower division and so it is better for me to step down and get more games here than to be at Chelsea or a Premier League club and never play many minutes."
