Chelsea defender Cahill excited by England appointment of Allardyce

Chelsea star Gary Cahill has stated that he is looking forward to working under new England manager Sam Allardyce.

Following the debacle during the 2016 European Championships, the FA have gone on to appoint Allardyce as manager of the Three Lions and there is a quiet sense of optimism following the arrival of the 61-year-old.

There are admittedly a few who doubt Allardyce's capabilities for such a big role but defender Cahill has gone on to state that he is really looking forward to working with his former Bolton Wanderers boss.

He told Standard Sport: "I am excited to be working under Sam. I'm looking to impress him at the start of the season and looking to impress him, if I'm fortunate enough to be involved in the squad.

"I'm looking to keep involved and keep that shirt. I've very passionate to play for my country. His appointment is an exciting one for us. It's going to be a change. It's going to be interesting to work under him, have his ideas and take them on board.

"It's down to me to impress him and make sure I hit the ground running so that I am in the squad when he selects them."
