Chelsea closing in on Blackburn boss Hughes

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes is a prime candidate for the Chelsea post.

The News of the World says Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is weighing up whether to go with Hughes or AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti as Avram Grant's replacement.

Former Manchester United and Chelsea striker Hughes is chief executive Peter Kenyon's favoured candidate.

He has been impressed by the way Hughes has transformed Blackburn and knows he would be hugely respected by the dressing room.

Sparky also won the FA Cup in 1997 during his time at Stamford Bridge.

A Blues source said: "There have been so many names bandied about but it's clear Roman believes he is getting closer to an appointment.

"Ancelotti has the experience of life at the very top, but Hughes has a few influential people batting for him."
