Chelsea captain Terry no guaranteed starter under Mourinho

Chelsea captain John Terry has no guarantee from Jose Mourinho he will be first-choice next season.

The Daily Star says their relationship cooled considerably towards the end of the coach's first stint at Stamford Bridge.

Former Chelsea star Claude Makelele even claimed - although this was denied by Terry and Chelsea - in his 2009 autobiography 'Tout Simplement' the Stamford Bridge skipper played a key role in Mourinho's departure in September 2007.

Terry strongly rejected Makelele's claims. A statement through his lawyers at the time said: "It has been claimed that John was in some way involved with the removal of Jose Mourinho as manager.

"This is categorically untrue and there is no foundation in this allegation.

"We also confirm (should it even need confirming) that John has never asked to be transferred from Chelsea."

Chelsea also disputed Makelele's version of events. But it remains to be seen if Mourinho will give Terry more playing time than Rafa Benitez did this season.

A source close to the departing Real Madrid boss said last night: "I don't think Jose rates him so much now."
