Chelsea captain Terry has no doubts over personal form

Chelsea captain John Terry insists he is playing as good as ever.

Terry is adamant the errors that have crept into his game have nothing to do with the Vanessa Peroncel scandal.

Terry said: "There are not many players who come out and hold their hands up after a defeat.

"But I held my hands up to the Everton game and I had an air kick at Wolves. Apart from that I'm pleased with my form this year. But I feel fine as I have been in recent weeks.

"In the first half of the season, I thought I was in really good form but a couple of bad results sometimes seem to... well, with what has been going on in recent weeks, the spotlight has been on me a little bit.

"But I still feel I'm playing well and felt I played well for England against Egypt last week."

Addressing the fall-out from his affair with Peroncel and the end of his close friendship with Bridge, Terry added: "With what has been going on, it was important for me to come through the England game with a good performance. I owed that to myself and the fans to do that."

In fact, Terry claims the adverse publicity and public debate about his morality has not changed his team-mates' attitude towards him.

Terry told the Sunday Mirror: "The attitude with Chelsea is very good and it's much the same with England.

"When things come up as a group of players on and off the field, we go out there and play a normal game.

"After things were made public, Chelsea beat Burnley away and we beat Arsenal, who are one of the best sides in the league. And then, a few weeks later, it all pops up again."
