Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has no regrets releasing Frank Lampard in the summer.
Impressed by his form and fitness, Manchester City now want to extend his loan deal from MLS club New York City until the end of the season.
Mourinho has previously refused to discuss the Stamford Bridge legend, allowed to leave at the end of last season when his contract expired, but said on Saturday night: "We made the right decision."
Speaking after the 2-0 win over Hull that kept his Londoners top, he added: "When you want to look forward, to look for the future and have people like Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic - they are the next ten years of the club.
"The project is prepare for the next ten years, not for the next year."
