Chelsea boss Grant keen on Barcelona's Gudjohnson

Chelsea are considering a shock move for old-boy Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The People says Blues coach Henk ten Cate - a former right-hand man at Barcelona - is believed to have sparked the club's interest in bringing the Icelandic striker back to Stamford Bridge.

Gudjohnsen, 29, was the subject of firm bids from West Ham and Portsmouth in the summer.

Although both clubs remain interested, they will not match the player's £100,000-a-week wage demands.

Gudjohnsen has failed to nail down a regular first-team place at the Nou Camp since his £8million switch last year.

Barca boss Frank Rijkaard is keen to keep the striker, but could be tempted to sell for £5m to reduce the club's wage bill.
