Charlton Athletic are open to investment after the Championship club sought financial advice.
Charlton have announced that the financial assistance could lead to them being put up for sale.
"The board of Charlton confirms that it has retained Seymour Pierce Limited to consider a range of strategic options, which may or may not lead to an offer for the company," the club said in a statement to the Stock Exchange.
Seymour Pierce have previously had a helping hand in Roman Abramovich's takeover of Chelsea in 2003.
They were also involved in the purchases of Aston Villa and West Ham by Randy Lerner and Eggert Magnusson respectively.
"We've been hired by Charlton to explore a number of options which may or may not include a sale," Seymour Pierce director Douglas Harmer told the Daily Telegraph.
