CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WRAP - Welbeck nets Arsenal hat-trick, Real Madrid edge Ludogorets as Basel downs Liverpool

Matchday 2 of the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League is now complete following a host of fixtures played around Europe on Wednesday night.

In England, Arsenal produced a fairly comfortable 4-1 win over Turkish club Galatasaray thanks to a hat-trick from summer signing Danny Welbeck.

The former Manchester United striker netted in the 22nd, 30th and 52nd minutes at the Emirates Stadium with Alexis Sanchez also on the scoresheet as the Gunners held out in the second half after losing goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to a red card.

Arsene Wenger's side went outright second in Group D courtesy of the win but sit three points in arrears of Germany's Borussia Dortmund who cruised past Belgian outfit Anderlecht 3-0 thanks to the influence of Adrian Ramo's second-half double.

In Group A, Arda Turan's 74th-minute goal gave Spanish title-holders Atletico Madrid a narrow 1-0 win over Italian champions Juventus while Markus Rosenberg scored twice as Swedish side Malmo beat Greece's Olympiakos 2-0 to place all four clubs on three points.

Group B action saw Real Madrid come from behind to down Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets Razgrad 2-1 with a fortuitous Cristiano Ronaldo penalty and a late volley from Karim Benzema overcoming Marcelinho's early header.

The reigning European champs are on top of the group table with six points, three clear of Liverpool and FC Basel, following the Swiss club's 1-0 win over the Reds at home courtesy of Marco Streller's second-half finish.

And in Group C, Russian side Zenit St Petersburg and French outfit Monaco played out a 0-0 draw as German club Bayer Leverkusen got the better of Portugal's Benfica 3-1 to move second on the table behind the two aforementioned teams.
