CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER FINAL 2ND LEG: Man Utd dispose of ten-man Chelsea

Manchester United progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League after a 2-1 success - 3-1 on aggregate - over ten men Chelsea at Old Trafford. Manchester remain unbeaten at home this season in all competitions this season after a comfortable victory over Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The Blues enjoyed plenty of possession but only really threatened when Didier Drogba came on at half-time for the ineffective Fernando Torres.

How Carlo Ancelotti will look back on that moment in the 16th minute when, with Chelsea pressing, Frank Lampard was presented with a clear goal-scoring chance but shot weakly allowing Edwin van Der Sar to save comfortably.

United were content to let the visitor's have possession and hit them on the break. Javier Hernandez had the ball in the Chelsea net but was marginally offside, but just before the break the Mexican broke the deadlock.

Ryan Giggs and John O'Shea played a neat one-two and when the cross came in Hernandez easily converted from inside the six yard box.

Chelsea pushed forward after the break without really threatening the United rearguard although Drogba did flash a shot just wide.

But any hopes of a Chelsea fight-back disappeared with twenty minutes remaining. Ramires was already on a yellow card when he tackled Nani from behind leaving the Portuguese referee with little choice but to produce red.

Yet the Blues gave themselves hope despite being a man down when Michael Essien found Drogba who turned and drove the ball past van Der Sar.

Within a minute though United restored their two goal advantage as Giggs again turned provider, this time for Ji-Sung Park to hammer home and totally deflate the Chelsea players.

The home side easily played out time to take their place in their 4th Champions League semi-final in five years and a potential treble winning campaign.

For Chelsea, any hope of silverware this season has all but disappeared and leaving the future of boss Ancelotti hanging by a thread.
