CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIERS: PSV, Lyon and Zenit all record first leg wins

The first lot of first leg Champions League qualifiers for the third round were played on Tuesday night with most of the main players recording victories.

PSV Eindhoven, Lyon, Zenit St Petersburg, Dinamo Zagreb and FC Basel all recorded wins that have put them in a good position for the return bouts next week.

In Holland, PSV beat Belgian side Zulte Waregem 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Memphis Depay and Jurgen Locadia while Milan Bisevac scored the only goal as Lyon edged Swiss club Grasshopper 1-0 in France.

Russian giants Zenit were served by an Alexander Kerzhakov goal to help beat Danish outfit Nordsjaelland 1-0 just outside of Copenhagen.

Zagreb got the better of Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol 1-0, Basel scored a narrow 1-0 win over Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv thanks to Valentin Stocker's first-half goal and Austria Vienna beat Icelandic outfit FH 1-0 at home.

Elsewhere, Kazakhstan's Shakhter Karagandy gave themselves every chance of progressing to the next phase with a 3-0 home triumph over Albania's Skenderu Korce, Romania's Steaua Bucharest scored two vital away goals in their 2-0 win in Georgia over Dinamo Tbilisi, Czech side Viktoria Plzen hammered Estonia's Nomme Kalju thanks to Marian Cisovsky's hat-trick and Ukraine's Metalist Kharkiv defeated Greece's PAOK 2-0.

Wednesday night sees Scottish champions Celtic host Swedes Elfsborg, Norway's Molde at home to Polish side Legia Warsaw, Slovenia's Maribor head to Cyprus to take on APOEL Nicosia, Serbian club Partizan to meet Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria and Austria's Red Bull Salzburg hosting Turkey's Fenerbahce.
