Real Madrid are through to the semi-finals of the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League after a dramatic win over rivals Atletico Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti's los Blancos beat Diego Simeone's Atleti 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in the quarter-final second leg on Wednesday night to score a 1-0 aggregate win allowing them to book a date in the final four.

Forgotten striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez was the hero for Real with an 88th minute goal which came after Arda Turan was sent off for the visitors for a second yellow card.

The goal came after Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez played a rapid one-two which saw the Portuguese ace race goalward before toe-poking into the path of Chicharito who swept home from close range.

It was Chicharito's first Champions League start since December and first goal in Europe's top competition in two-and-a-half years and a very timely one for the Meringues.

In France, Monaco huffed and puffed but were unable to down Juventus who progress with a 1-0 aggregate following last week's narrow triumph in Turin.

The Bianconeri made it through to their first Champions League semi-final since 2003 after a match devoid of out-and-out scoring chances with Arturo Vidal's penalty at the Juventus Stadium enough for Massimiliano Allegri's men to join Real, Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the final four of Europe's premier club competition.
