Champions League: Man City 5-2 CSKA Moscow

With the sounds of bonfire night echoing outside the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City produced their own fireworks with 5-2 demolition of CSKA Moscow and progressed into the Champions League last 16. Manchester City eased to a three goal lead within the first half-hour then allowed their visitor's CSKA Moscow a glimmer of hope by conceding on the stroke of half-time.

City scored after just three minutes when former Manchester United player Zoran Tosic brought down David Silva and Sergio Aguero easily converted from the resulting penalty.

The Argentinean then doubled the hosts advantage with a wonderful turn then measured strike and finally on 29 minutes turned provider for Alvaro Negredo to score a tap-in.

City looked totally in control against the demoralised Russian's until the closing moments of the half when Seydou Doumbia was put clear and rounded Costel Pantilmon to reduce the defecit.

Moscow's hopes of a comeback vanished within five minutes of the restart when Samir Nasri teed up Negredo for simple finish from six yards.

As the home side cruised complacency set-in and Gael Clichy pulled back Doumbia and the Ivory Coast forward made no mistake with the spot kick.

CSKA started to show more effort as the City faithful began to get nervy but it was the home side who added to the scoreline in added time with Negredo collecting the match ball for hat-trick following a looping header.
