Central Coast's Griffiths to call on Blackburn derby experience for F3 clash

Central Coast Mariners midfielder Rostyn Griffiths will harness his experiences of playing in derby matches in England when his side meets Newcastle Jets this weekend.

The Mariners and the Jets will clash in the F3 derby at Ausgrid Stadium on Saturday night and Griffiths says he is always ready for these types of games after playing for the Blackburn Rovers youth and reserves setup in Lancashire Cup fixtures against Bolton Wanderers.

"Bolton is very close to Blackburn and we had a couple of fierce games against them, especially in the Lancashire Cup," Griffiths said.

"One match ended up 3-2 in the final, and it was a pretty big battle throughout the entire game.

"The people in the UK make a big deal out of derbies and it is good to see that here in Australia we are getting some real good ones too.

"Obviously there's ours, but the Melbourne teams put on a great spectacle as well.

"It's a little bit different in the change room - the boys are a little more fired up than normal," he added.

"The crowd is quite vocal during the game as well."

The Mariners are currently situated seventh on the A-League table with one point from two outings whilst the Jets sit fifth following their first round win over Melbourne Heart.
