Celtic youngster McGeouch: I wanted Xabi's shirt but ended up with broken jaw

Celtic midfielder Dylan McGeouch has revealed how he planned to swap shirts with Xabi Alonso at the end of a pre-season match in the summer.

The Bhoys met Real Madrid in Philadelphia and the 19-year old midfielder admits he was keen to approach the great Xabi and ask if he could have his playing jersey at the completion of the match.

However, McGeouch sustained a broken jaw in a mid-air collision with Nuri Sahin (now at Liverpool) and needed a stretcher to leave the pitch before being taken to hospital, essentially disrupting his plans to try and secure a nice piece of football memorabilia.

"I didn't manage to get a Real Madrid shirt. That's what we were all talking about before the game - about hopefully getting a top to keep and remember for the rest of your career," said McGeouch, who made his return in the weekend's 2-0 win over Dundee.

"I was gutted about that although I'll always remember that game.

"Everybody wants Ronaldo's shirt but I had my eye on Xabi Alonso. It would have been good to get that but it wasn't to be.

"But it's great to be back after the Madrid game and to be playing in front of the fans.

"I was 'out cold' in mid-air when I got hit and then I woke up in the ambulance on the way to hospital and then found out what happened a few hours later."
