Celtic's van Dijk flattered to be linked with Arsenal

Virgil van Dijk has opened up about his links with Premier League club Arsenal.

The Celtic defender has attracted a lot of interest from top flight sides in England due to his impressive performances in the Scottish Premiership since his arrival in the summer of 2013.

Dutch centre-back van Dijk is an integral part of the Hoops line-up, meaning the Glasgow giants would be loath to lose him, but the former FC Groningen man admits he has dreams to take his career further than Scotland's top league.

"I have been thinking a lot about my career recently," van Dijk told De Teegraaf.

"I am now 23 and have played at Willem II, FC Groningen and Celtic, and now I am linked to clubs like Arsenal. Isn't that great?

"There are a lot of clubs interested, but Celtic are holding out for a big transfer fee. The club is clear - they don't want to let me go in the winter because we're playing for four trophies.

"But we have to be realistic. If there's a nice club from England, then we have to talk. I want to develop myself as a player."
