Celtic's Stoke targets League Cup final after match-winning performance

Anthony Stokes is determined to win a place in the Celtic line-up for this season's Scottish Communities League Cup final.

The former Hibernian man was left out of last campaign's extra-time loss to Old Firm rivals Rangers despite scoring in the semi-final against Aberdeen.

Yesterday, Stokes netted twice late to bury Falkirk to enable the Hoops a path through to the final where they will meet Kilmarnock at Hampden Park on Mach 18 and he is hoping his form is enough for a start this time around.

"Every player wants to play in every game - especially finals - but you have to be patient," he said.

"If you're doing the business on the pitch then nine times out of 10 you should play. I want to play every game and scoring two goals today isn't going to do me harm.

"Last season coming to Celtic, there were a lot of expectations about me but this year I've coped a little better and it's showing with the number of goals I've scored.

"Falkirk gave us a hard game. They're good technically and they passed the ball well.

"But we're through. We scored three and did enough to win. The lads deserved it, we're progressing and getting older and wiser."
