Celtic defender Daniel Majstorovic was left distraught yesterday as a freak training mishap ended his season and ruled out this summer's European Championships.

The 34-year old centre-back sustained cruciate ligament damage in his knee whilst training with Sweden and will now undergo surgery which will force him to miss the tournament in Poland and Ukraine this June.

"It feels like s***," he said.

"I've been looking forward to the European Championships for a long time and it hurts to realise I'll miss it.

"But I will do everything to get back as soon as possible. I feel I still have much to offer on the football field and do not want to give up my career just for this. At the same time I have respect that this is a serious injury and it will take a lot of hard work to come back.

"Right now I just want to make sure I get the best treatment as soon as possible and then start my rehabilitation."
