Celtic are looking to sign Bordeaux defender Michael Ciani according to recent reports.
The Hoops are looking at bringing in the 28-year old Frenchman for around £1million despite him being linked with bigger clubs for much more less than two years ago.
Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Wigan Athletic have recently been credited with an interest in Ciani but it is believed that his agent spoke with the Hoops last night.
Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud revealed the club was open to a transfer but wanted to make sure he received at least something for the former Lorient centre-back.
"We wouldn't let him go for nothing but we are realistic about what he is worth.
"Football is no longer a world full of rich clubs. The money has gone and clubs are struggling so we can't demand what we used to for a player of his quality. We'd be looking for a fee - perhaps for Celtic to throw money in the collection basket like they would at the church.""Would Celtic want to sign Ciani? Would Ciani be interested in moving to Scotland to play for them? Why not? It's a big club and he's a very good player so it's a good match," he said.
