Celtic defender van Dijk backs Forster for England

Celtic centre-back Virgil van Dijk is confident teammate Fraser Forster will make England's World Cup squad this year.

The 25-year old has kept 11 clean sheets in a row in Scotland prompting van Dijk to suggest that he should be Roy Hodgson's number one, ahead of Manchester City's Joe Hart, in Brazil this summer.

"Fraser is a phenomenal goalkeeper, one of the best in the world," he said.

"Throughout this season he has shown he is a world-class goalkeeper and he has proved himself in the Champions League.

"I think he should go to the World Cup this summer and if I was the coach of England I would certainly put Fraser as my number one."

But van Dijk was quick to point out that the entire Hoops line-up needs to be congratulated for breaking Celtic's 92-year shutout record.

"However, I think the whole team should be proud of the record. The back four and Fraser have done a good job and we are very proud of that," van Dijk added.

"It is not easy to be unbeaten for as many games as we have (24 in the league) and hopefully we will be able to beat the (British) record (of 1,311 minutes without conceding a goal)."
