Celtic chief Lawwell hopeful regarding Norwich target Hooper

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell is remaining positive regarding the stay of star striker Gary Hooper.

The 25-year old ace is still a target for Norwich City, who are expected to swoop in the summer, but Lawwell has been buoyed by the words of manager Neil Lennon who feels the former Scunthorpe United man will remain with the Scottish champs.

"Gary has a year left too and you never know. A lot has to do with the player and what he wants to do," said Lawwell.

"There are three parties. There is us, there is the player and then there is also what's there for the player. Who knows?

"If there's a possibility the kid wants to stay and that is Neil's gut feeling, then who knows?

"We have the next few weeks ahead of us to try and sort that out.

"We know where we are, I'm sure the player knows where he is, but what we don't have is the third leg to all that.

"We did that with Gary in January (when Norwich made three bids). We weighed it up. We were playing Juventus (in the Champions League), we backed the manager and looked to see where we would go."
