Celtic boss Mowbray surprised by Australian reception

Celtic manager Tony Mowbray said he was surprised and overwhelmed by the reception his team received in Australia. The Hoops were in Brisbane for a pre-season friendly with Brisbane Roar on Sunday and former West Brom boss Mowbray said that the trip, his first in charge of Celtic, had been a success.

"From day one, everybody has been very hospitable to us," the Celtic manager told Channel 67.

"The hotel has been fantastic, the people have been great and everything we have needed has been there for us.

"To see over 1,000 supporters turn out to watch our training session was quite humbling for me. I've been away from Celtic for 14 years and I've always told people that it's more than a club.

"Yet, the supporters still have the ability to take your breath away. The passion is there and you could see how much the people care about. I'm just delighted to be playing a part again.

"I don't even know if the likes of Manchester United have a worldwide support that could carry the same passion and fervour as our fans do. This trip has been a special event and it's helped the team."
