Celtic manager Neil Lennon has made the surprising call of sacking his assistant Alan Thompson.
The pair led the Hoops to last season's Scottish Premier League title but it was apparent that all was not well behind the scenes at Parkhead.
Reports suggest that Lennon wants to take a different approach with the way he trains his players and has decided to sever ties with former teammate Thompson.
"Alan was informed of the decision to terminate his employment with immediate effect in a telephone conversation with the club manager Neil Lennon.""I can confirm that I have been instructed to act on behalf of Alan Thompson following his dismissal by Celtic FC," said Thompson's lawyer Margaret Gribbon.
The decision by Lennon ends a nine-year Celtic relationship between the pair who played together for seven years before Thompson joined Lennon's backroom staff when he took the reins at Celtic Park two seasons ago.
