The cause of death of Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini has been determined.
The 25-year-old midfielder collapsed and died during the first half of his side's Serie B match with Pescara. Medical staff tried to resuscitate the much-loved player, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital that Saturday afternoon.
ANSA reports Morosini's death was likely the result of a rare congenital heart condition, arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy. This is the same condition that claimed the life of Sevilla defender Antonio Puerta in August 2007.
