Casillas form will force Real Madrid to drop pursuit of Man Utd's De Gea

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has stated that Iker Casillas could well remain at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond the end of the current campaign.

It is clear to see that Casillas is not the player he once was and as a result, Real have been linked with a move for Manchester United star David De Gea as a replacement for the veteran goalkeeper.

However, Casillas has been showing good form in the past few weeks and Ancelotti suggests that there is a possibility the 34-year old could well remain in Madrid beyond the end of the current campaign.

Ancelotti said: "Iker was very clear, he wants to stay. We want him to. I want him to. He doesn't need protection. Iker has broad shoulders and is a great professional.

"It is just different for goalkeepers because, unless there is an injury to the other keeper, they are not able to enter the game. There are other players who can come on for 15 minutes or 30 seconds and make a difference in a match."
