Carver wants media blackout as Newcastle prepare for relegation battle

Newcastle United head coach John Carver will urge his players to keep away from all forms of media in the lead-up to next weekend.

The Magpies host West Ham United on Sunday and could be relegated if they lose and Hull City manage to defeat Manchester United.

In order to keep his players fully focused, Carver says he will implore them to take some time off such social media sites as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook while urging them to forego TV for the week.

"I'll tell the players to keep away from the TV and going online, to keep them focused on preparation," said Carver.

"If you take your eye off the ball you get punished, and we've got to keep our focus sharp.

"It's still in our hands, and if you want it enough then you can do something about it.

"We've got a week to get our heads around this situation."
