John Carver was thrilled with the performance of his Newcastle United players at Liverpool on Monday night.
The Magpies were beaten 2-0 at Anfield - their fifth Premier League loss in a row - but Carver felt it was a much-improved showing from last week's Tyne-Wear derby defeat to Sunderland.
The Toon boss also felt his side were hardly done b when Ayoze Perez was not awarded a penalty when he was brought down by Dejan Lovren in the first half.
"I thought it was good reaction after last weekend," Carver said.
"We had energy and caused Liverpool some real problems and it was a huge decision that changed the game when Ayoze Perez went down under Dejan Lovren's challenge.
"I thought it was stone-wall and looking back at it, it was.
"We were tentative in the first ten minutes but we grew into the game and Ayoze Perez forced a great save out of Simon Mignolet as well.
"Once we went 1-0 down we seemed to grow in the game. We were on the front foot and we don't get a major decision.
"I keep coming in front of the camera and talking about it but everyone out there has seen it is a penalty. Even Brendan (Rodgers) said straight away it is a penalty.
A ninth-minute curler from Raheem Sterling gave the Reds an early lead before Joe Allen fired home a volley from close range in the 70th minute prior to Moussa Sissoko's sending off for a second yellow card.
