Carsley excited about new era at Birmingham

Birmingham City skipper Lee Carsley is excited about the new era the club is entering under Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung.

After recently completing the takeover of the club, Yeung has promised to provide manager Alex McLeish with £40million to spend on players and Carsley believes the club is on the verge of something really good.

"I think we are at the start of something big. I don't suppose we are going to attract the kind of players that Manchester City are attracting but we are in a different kind of market," said Carsley.

"The players that we are going to be going for, we are not going to be gazumped by the likes of Stoke like we have been in the past. These are positive times at the club and we are looking forward to what's to come.

"If we can attract a higher quality of player, every department could do with a lift. New players will bring a different kind of tempo to training; it will lift everyone else's game," he added.

"This week has been a bit different with the new owner and staff coming down to the training ground to introduce themselves to the players.

"They have brought along with them an optimism about they way things can improve in terms of our spending power.

"I think they will be pleased with the way we performed at Arsenal. We showed a lot of heart. A lot of teams come here, concede two goals and don't give the kind of display we did."
