Michael Carrick enjoyed a winning playing return with Manchester United U21 yesterday in victory over West Ham United.
Goals from Will Keane and James Wilson earned United the win.
Carrick, 33, looked his usual assured self in midfield after recovering from an ankle operation that has kept him out of Louis van Gaal's plans since the Dutchman's arrival at Old Trafford. After being on the bench at West Brom on Monday, he feels ready to push himself back into the side.
"It's been a while," he told MUTV. "It's been about five-and-a-half months since the last game as it was the end of last season. It's been a long time so it was nice to get out and get the feeling of playing in a match. I've been training for two or three weeks now so that was the next step for me and it was nice to get out there."
When asked if he will play alongside Daley Blind or compete with the Dutch star for a spot, he replied: "I don't know. You'll have to ask the manager.
"I'm here to play. I don't know what the manager's plans are for me but I'm trying to be fit and available for the next game. I'll leave the selection headache up to him."
