Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is well aware he will need to have patience this season.
The 30-year old made his first appearance of the campaign when he came on as a first-half substitute for the injured Tom Cleverley in the 5-0 thrashing of Bolton on Saturday and he knows that things are a little different under Sir Alex Ferguson this term as the Scottish tactician has developed some quality young players to take the reins.
"It is not so much a case of being worried about getting back in, more that I just want to play," said Carrick ahead of tomorrow night's Champions League meeting with Benfica in Lisbon.
"I have to be patient. I have not been left out in the cold in any way and I know I am going to get games. It is frustrating but I look at the bigger picture.
"It hasn't just been me who has had to wait. Others are facing the same situation. But now the Champions League has started again more players will be needed."
