Carragher: Rodgers can lead Liverpool back to Champions League

Jamie Carragher is supremely confident that Liverpool can produce a top-four finish this season.

The Reds defeated Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's Stadium on Sunday to move within two points of a Champions League spot and former defender Carragher is of the belief that Brendan Rodgers' influence can continue to point them in the right direction after a difficult beginning to the campaign.

"If Liverpool get in the top four from where they were in December it would be an unbelievable achievement for those set of players," he said on Sky Sports.

"There is no doubt when you work with Brendan Rodgers, the type of manager he is, his teams always improve and get better as the season goes on. If it continues they will get in the top four.

"They beat Spurs, have beaten Southampton, have Man City next week, and they have to go to the Emirates and host Manchester United. It's in Liverpool's hands.

"The form they are in at the moment and the run they are on, you think if they get points in those games they will be in there."

Liverpool started this season in Europe's premier club competition but dropped into the Europa League after failing to navigate their group which consisted of Real Madrid (1st), FC Basel (2nd) and Razgrad Ludogorets (4th).
